A Quality Stay at a Budget Hotel

November 29th, 2009

Newly renovated in 2009, Days Inn of Elk Grove, Illinois has received a Real Traveler rating of 3.6 out of 5 from 67 reviews across the web.

The Days Inn is the perfect place for budget travelers who are looking for a quality stay. Jodie Moore, Sales Manager at the hotel, interacts with guests on a daily basis and build relationships in order to ensure that guests’ expectations are exceeded. She elaborates, “The old saying that you get what you pay for isn’t always true.” Moore explains that the words “budget hotel” and “economy hotel” aren’t to be viewed as “bad words.” Instead, guests at the Days Inn Elk Grove get more than their money’s worth. Described as having a warm and sunny atmosphere, the hotel is a great fit for those who don’t want to break their budget. With complimentary breakfast, free wi-fi internet, and coffee service 24 hours a day, the hotel strives to accomodate low budget travelers. One guest describes the hotel as “Super clean, spacious, comfortable rooms, nice breakfast, and excellent customer service.”

Those traveling with pets will be pleased to hear about the “Pets Package” as the hotel wishes to “include everyone in the family whether they have fur or not.” From toys and treats to food and water bowls, as well as a guide to the area’s dog parks, this package is perfect for pet-lovers!

Continuing its commitment to its customers, the Days Inn Elk Grove makes an effort to get to know their guests, as each guest is treated as a person, “not a confirmation number.” One example of outstanding customer service occured last November. One guest, who had an extended stay at the hotel, struck up a friendship with the front desk clerk, Mary. When Mary realized that the guest had no where to go for Thanksgiving dinner, she invited the guest to her family’s home to share in their Thanksgiving festivities. Going out of her way to make a guest feel like family, Mary is a prime example of superior customer service at the Days Inn Elk Grove.

For those looking for a hotel that won’t break the bank, and goes above and beyond the old adage of “getting what you pay for,” the Days Inn Elk Grove is the perfect choice.

Indeed, if you stand within the walls of this gigantic complex, you can almost feel the spirit of celebration that once rang through the place.

2.) Piazza Campidoglio
The Piazza Campidoglio, or the Capitoline Hill, was the seat of power of the Ancient Romans. And up until today, it still stands as Italy’s center of politics. It holds the famous statue of Castor and Pollux and various structures designed by the great Michaelangelo himself like the double staircase and other buildings.

3.) The Roman Forums
Also, there’s nothing more exhilarating than to visit the place where democracy was born. The Roman Forums, where the Roman senate once held their heated debates discussing everything from large-scale wars to petty squabbles, are also popular tourist attractions. 6.) The Grand Canal in Venice
There’s nothing more Romantic than going on a boat ride through the famous canals of the floating city of Venice. These quixotic canals are featured in various movies and are a favorite of newlyweds all over the world. It’s also a great way to take in all the sights of the beautiful city.

Diamond Head Volcano is Honolulu’s Landmark of Hawaii

November 21st, 2009

Diamond Head is Honolulu’s landmark of Hawaii, and probably Hawaii’s most recognizable symbol. It dominates southern Oahu and looms over the beaches of Waikiki.

Diamond Head might be just another extinct volcano, but it’s also the best place to orient see the breathtaking landscape of Oahu’s southern reaches. From the top of Diamond Head all of Honolulu and beyond is laid out for you. The coast, the beaches, the other landmarks, like Pearl Harbor and downtown, the neighborhoods, valleys and ridges. And because it’s so close to Waikiki’s hotels, it’s a very popular hiking activity. The hike up Diamond Head is less than a mile and takes less than two hours.

It’s all part of Diamond Head State Park and it’s easy to get to. Just take TheBus (#58) from Waikiki or drive down Kalakaua Avenue to Monsarrat, by the Honolulu Zoo. This turns into Diamond Head Road. Tell the bus driver you’d like to get off at Diamond Head’s entrance.

Go in through the little tunnel entrance. There’s a parking lot, an info center, rest rooms, and a little kiosk. The trail up brown and dusty Diamond Head starts here.

The hike up to the top of Diamond Head starts with a walk across the floor of the volcano, and then the trail becomes gradually steeper and rocky, which winds its way up to the first lookout and half-way point. This might take about 20-30 minutes, and from here you can see the Windward Coast of Oahu. But the best is yet to come.

After you climb a concrete stairway you’ll come to a 225-foot tunnel that’s cut into the mountainside. It’s a good place to get out of the sun for a few minutes and get ready for the next flight of stairs.

On the other side of the tunnel is another flight of steps, slightly longer than the first, but after that you’re practically there. Actually, the lowest level of the Fire Control Station Diamond Head. Go up the spiral stairs to the top of the station and you can exit to the observation station at the summit of Diamond Head. Straight ahead is the broad blue Pacific, the green slopes of the Koolaus, all of Honolulu and beyond, as well as a bird’s eye view of Waikiki.

Stay, take lots of pictures, have a light snack and some water. Re-apply your sunscreen and revel in the moment. After your hour or so hike up, your 30-45 minutes trip down will be much, much easier. But watch the time: The gates close shut at 6pm.

Diamond Head State Park is open from 6-6 all year. There’s a $1 admission for walk-ins, or $5 per carload. If you want to try and avoid the tour groups, come early in the morning or after one’ish in the afternoon.

Bring comfortable walking shoes, water, sunscreen, a sunhat, a camera and a friend. A flashlight is handy for the tunnels, and you could use a towel to help block the sun, fan yourself, or wipe down your face with some cool water. And binoculars would come in really handy.

I Love Italian Travel – Carnevale Season In Latium

November 16th, 2009

The Latium region of central Italy (also called Lazio) is home to several Carnevale including those at Frascati, Ronciglione, and of course in the regional capital, Rome. Frascati is a town of about twenty thousand, located about twenty kilometers (about twelve miles) southeast of Rome in the Alban hills. It is known for international science laboratories and sometimes, but not always, its wines. Frascati’s Carnival is quite unusual; it ends with the burning at the stake of Pulcinella (also known as Punch or Punchinello). There is even a traditional poem devoted to His Majesty the Carnival

Historical Carnival: Every year it ends up badly: he gets burned, he is tossed in a gorge, he is tried and condemned to death after a strange public ritual, he drowns in the sea, he undergoes a funny vivisection, he is buried, he is cast out, eventually he is abandoned in a balloon in the sky.

Ronciglione is situated about sixty kilometers (forty miles) north of Rome in the Cimini mountains. It is home to fewer than ten thousand people. The Ronciglione Carnevale is based on the Roman Renaissance Baroque Carnival. After the Big Bell is rung, the keys to the city (town) are presented to King Carnival. Then come the Barbary races, the Saltarello (jumping dance), the allegorical floats, and the sad ritual of the Carnivals death with the final Moccolata a jumping dance.

Then it’s on to Rome, almost in the center of Latium, not far from the center of Italy, and according to many, the center of the world. Roma has a long Carnival tradition. In fact, during the Renaissance the Roman Carnival was even famous in all Europe than the Venetian one. Alexandre Dumas entitled Chapter 36 of his famous book, The Count of Monte Cristo the Carnival at Rome. But over the centuries Roman authorities abandoned the city celebrations.

Happily, Carnevale has returned to Rome, the city hosts over thirty events located all over Rome. Activities include circus horses that jump through flames, masquerades, fireworks, open-air theaters, folklore dances and parades with floats that keep Rome humming for about eight days. Don’t miss out on the Castagnole,& traditional Carnival cakes. There are activities for all ages. You’ll get a chance to tour the Palazzo Massimo alle Colonne and Palazzo Sfroza Cesarini (both located on Corso Vittorio Emanuele) that present dance and music performances and offer costumed tour guides. A major highlight comes on Sunday afternoon (check the events calendar), an equestrian show in the Piazza del Popolo that showcases Cossack riding purebred Berber horses. And you’ll see a kind of basketball played on horseback.

10 Best Nightspots on Earth

November 8th, 2009

If I have ever written a list that, in any way, is far from being complete, comprehensive, and in-depth, it would be this one. Our team have traveled around the world and noted some of the most magnetizing places that allures insomniac, night creatures, to party till wee hours.

Coming up with only ten nightclubs from around the world was a tough game. So, we decided to include no more than one club from any major city. Also, instead of jotting down clubs from one country, we have tried to cover places from La Boom night clubdifferent countries, regrettably avoiding some major clubs. And yes, don’t forget to thank me after going through the last. Though entertaining, I had to spend many sleepless nights.

The implausible light shows and bouncing dance floor will want you to want more. I wasn’t much interested, initially, to include La Boom, Cancun, Mexico, in my top ten list until I saw the “You will regret what you did last night” contest. The late hours were sheer party ambience with unmatched drinks and horny lasses all around. These things compelled me to rank La Boom as number 10.

The shortest definition of Miami I can come up with is non-stop partying. Most of the clubbers in most of the pubs here, hail from Canada or New York. However, you won’t recognize any of them on weekend theme based parties. Not the largest, but best among all the clubs in Miami is Groove Jet (Rank 9), where you can spend a unforgettable night. Nights here are jam-packed with wild-party-lovers, finest DJ’s, and of course piercing lights.

Renowned tycoons, celebrities, and rich brats prefer partying at Club BBoss in Hong Kong. A minor one, but one of the reasons is the gratifying staff of more than 1,000 serving beverages never tasted before. However, the level of service, pleasure, and ecstasy increases tremendously, if you manage to get into the VIP room. Along with drinking with hottest models in town, you can drive Rolls through and around the indoor highway. This club at number 8 has been blamed to offer much more than you had expected.

club bboss hong kong

Dump your girlfriend before you enter Scorpions in Ios, Greece because if you don’t, she will definitely dump you if she sees you here. And yes, if this happens, Scorpions is again the best destination to forget your break-up and party harder. For the first time, you will curse the dawn for arriving early. However, this place is tailor-made for sinners and wild party-animals. If you are seeking a peaceful holiday destination: Get out of here, you prick.

Sometimes, if you feel like buying some time while parting, crawl out of the Scorpions, rest on the beach, revitalize, and continue with the wickedness. This spot definitely deserves to be at number 7.

Whenever, I go to Las Vegas, I really don’t know what to expect. Each bar, each pub, has something distinct and wild. Then there is C2K, a club that attracts numerous tourists and locals, who creep from one floor to the other that offers a cigar and sushi bar. The expanse of C2K encompasses six private skyboxes, if you are not drunk enough to count them. This party spot, flawlessly located in Casino complex and The Venetian Hotel, is an ideal tavern to enjoy alcohol, girls, music, and live entertainment. My ranking – 6.

crobar chicagoRemember the beats of Mixed Live album by renowned DJ Carl Cox? Get those tracks revived along with many other mixes because Chicago is home to many of the top-notch DJ’s. Shelter and Karma were once a good spot to chill out and get drunk. However, if you are seeking the contemporary blend of sexy lasses on undomesticated music beats, freaking bar layout, and alcohol, Crobar in Chicago is a place not to be missed. Graduating to number 5, Crobar is the modern pub that every collage grad looks out for.

People never been to Garden of Eden in Los Angeles will probably comprehend this place to a civilized restaurant. However, this club at Hollywood in La Brea, GE is a combination of remarkable metal job, dark wood, and sensual illuminations. Check out what happens when models, upcoming actors, and aspiring talents pass out. Spend time at any of the exquisite bars or dance with extremely hot models on the dance floor that can be seen from the expansive balcony of Garden of Eden. This blend of wildness and sophistication drags this club up to number 4.

Partying in Ibiza is definitely not for starters. It requires experience and strength to consume alcohol and drugs all privilege ibizanight. The once infamous destination of 1980’s is not one of the hottest destinations on earth. It’s a privilege to attend a party in Privilege, Ibiza where supermodels and celebrities swathe the dance floor. With 3 extravagant floors, a pool and capacity of over 10,000 party-people, Privilege is at number 3.

Though Twilo has been closed down few months ago, it is still in my list of top-ten wild clubs. This is a place where famous DJ’s like Paul Van Dyk, John Digweed, and Sasha rocked the floor. People from all over the northeastern USA preferred to sip the drinks and get knocked out for three days. If this bar would have been still existent, I would have ranked it number 2. However, Life and Factory in New York are also worthy of sharing this spot.

Formerly know for it’s metal production and the fatherland of Def Leppard, Sheffield is now more famous for having Gatecrasher. This massive club is a battlefield of world’s best DJ’s. Among the most famous one is Paul Oakenfold, three time champion and king of crowds. Whereas the recent champion Max Graham earned the title of world’s best DJ and was awarded a residency in the club. With such superb music-setters on the floor, Sheffield, UK, is and will be at number 1 for a long time.

Truly, ranking these clubs was one of the most difficult tasks of my life. However, the urge of revisiting these places with an excuse of updating the list has constantly occupied my mind. If you have been to any of these places, please leave a comment here and add value to the list.

Rural Islands Stays – One of a Kind Digs on Formentera

November 6th, 2009

Formentera is one of Spain’s Balearic Islands the smallest of the bunch, off the southeastern coast of the mainland. It is a unique place, where time does stand still and you may just forget the meaning of the word stressed-out. Formentera has no concept of busy, hectic or rushed. It is as laid-back as a reggae song, but with a Mediterranean beat.

Being such a special place, it only makes sense that Formentera would also offer up some pretty unique accommodations. A small island, tourists will have a hard time getting a hotel in the busy summer season. Instead of staying in a hotel or even a pension on Formentera, opt for a local experience and stay at Dorita’s farm in the countryside.

Dorita's Farmhouse Stays on Formentera, SpainDorita’s Farmhouse Stays on Formentera, Spain

Dorita, who owns the rural house, rents out rooms in her farmhouse, plus separate rooms, cabins and yurt-like structures on the property. There is also a communal kitchen for guests to use. But be warned! No wine or smoking on the premises! Dorita has certain rules. The farmhouse is what one could call ‘hippy’ in style, with mandarin colored beads hung in doorways, and hammock strung from fig trees. However, those who have a ‘natural’ side will love Dorita’s thoughtful touches. The places is really very peaceful, beautiful, and dare I say?, groovy.
