To The Top of Borneo and Back

July 15th, 2010

The Island of Borneo, located in Southeast Asia, and is the third largest island in the world and is divided between three countries: Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei. The beautiful island is known for its raw steaming jungle and insane levels of biodiversity, but perhaps the most dominant feature on this lush tropical island remains elusive and unexplored. Perhaps for this reason, more than any other, I convinced my girlfriend, brother and sister-in-law to go on a 3 day, 2 night tour to the summit of Mount Kinabalu, located in the Malaysian state of Sabah. There are several outfitters that operate tours on and around Mount Kinabalu, but we went with Mountain Trails Tours & Travel.

Spending the Day in Bali, Indonesia

July 4th, 2010

With limited time to spend in Bali, we decided that a tour of the island would be a great way to sample what the island has to offer.  Having gotten some advice on “must-sees” from friends who were recently in Bali, we opted for  “Bali, Kintamani Volcano,Ubud and Barong Dance Full Day Tour.” We stayed in Sanur on the water, and were picked up at our hotel. Our tour guide, Sandy, a Balinese local, was enthusiastic and had a wealth of knowledge about Bali.

Seminyak – Bali, The Heaven in Earth

February 10th, 2010

Where Ubud is all about spiritually and culture, Seminyak is known for exquisite beaches, great shopping and fine dining. Seminyak is very popular with resident expatriates and land accommodation prices are amongst the highest on Bali. Luxury spas and hotels abound, as do high-end shopping establishments and fine-dining restaurants.

Seminyak is a shopper’s paradise. There are plenty of branded boutiques, including some that I’m familiar with from Jakarta and others that are completely new to me. And if you ever get tired of shopping, if that’s possible, you can pop into one of the fine-dining restaurants managed by foreigners and locals or any one of the hundreds of cool bars.
