My girlfriend and I have been on many holidays together but our most recent one was definitely the best. Having been to both Rhodes and Kos myself over the years, I was itching to get back to a Greek island having not been to one for a good few years. My girlfriend preferred larger cities like Barcelona and Paris, but since we had been to places like this for the past few years it seemed only fair to go somewhere a bit different this year.
I chose Crete because it is a bit bigger than the other islands in Greece, and I thought it might have a bit more of a city feel to it, especially if we stayed in the main resort and capital city of Crete, Heraklion. The fact that I was able to find cheap flights to Crete also helped in the decision making process!
I was amazed when I got there because you didn’t really know you were on an island at all. The city felt like a proper city, and the general feeling in the area in which we were staying was that of a very cosmopolitan place, which I really didn’t expect. My girlfriend was thrilled because it looked like there were lots of great shops for her to check out, and I was just thrilled to be back near the Med and Aegean, because I was mad on snorkelling. I couldn’t wait to get in the water and she couldn’t wait to get in the shops! It looked like we had found the perfect place for both of us!
