The Abalone Inn Bed & Breakfast in Inverness, CA.

On a recent getaway to the Point Reyes National Seashore, I passed by a quaint B&B several times on my way through Inverness to the shore.

It had a homey, Cape Cod-esque look to it, with a welcoming front porch done up in a nautical theme. Finally, after passing by three or four times, I pulled over to get a closer look.

The Abalone Inn offers three guestrooms in a 1912 Edwardian cottage that overlooks the Tomales Bay wetlands with a view of Black Mountain beyond.

The rooms range from $110 to $150 per night, double occupancy and include hearty a breakfast of organic fruits and juices, whole grain breads and muffins, cheese, yogurt, or eggs from our hens, and organic fair trade coffee and teas as well as use of the hot tub.

Lush gardens surround the inn and outdoor hot tub.

Though children are welcome, it didn’t strike me as a the best choice for young kids, considering the intimacy and relaxing nature of the inn. It has a more adult getaway vibe, I could see myself spending a weekend there with the husband as opposed to chasing my kids around the garden and shushing them so they don’t intrude on other guests. In a nutshell, leave the rugrats at home for this one.

Lush gardens surround the inn and the lattice enclosed hot tub is open to the sky. Professional massages in a cozy gazebo nearby are available from one of the innkeepers who doubles as a massage therapist.
