Residence Inn, Scottsdale, Arizona

March 15th, 2011
Residence Inn Breakfast

I was glad to find the Residence Inn Marriott at the end of a long road trip. Choosing it mainly because of convenience, this was only my second time staying at a Residence Inn. The first was very short, and nothing memorable. However, as a fan of the Marriott brand, I was looking forward to a stay at the Residence Inn Hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona.

One of the main draws of the Residence Inn in Scottsdale was its location. The hotel is less than a mile from Scottsdale Fashion Square, which is a chic shopping, entertainment, and nightlife area. While you could walk there from the hotel, it was just a few dollars to take a cab. The Phoenix Airport is a 20-30 minute drive from the Scottsdale hotel.

The first thing you’re likely to notice about this Residence Inn is how big it is. It feels more like an apartment complex than an extended-stay hotel, as it features a couple different rows of buildings that stretch to the back of the property. I was at the back of the hotel, which meant I had to drive around to get to my room. As the last row of buildings, it offered a feel of seclusion since it was quite a distance from the main road. Since it’s an extended-stay hotel, the rooms have more of the feel of an apartment. Twice as big as your typical hotel room, features include a living area with a pull-out sofa, spacious bedroom, kitchenette, large closet space, and a bathroom.

The most impressive thing about my stay at the Residence Inn was the complimentary hot breakfast. When I hear complimentary breakfast about a hotel, I typically think of yogurt, fruit, cereal, and if I’m lucky, doughnuts. However, Marriott has raised the ante with their “home touch” hot breakfast. The “home touch” breakfast is a buffet with a wide-variety of warm items, including pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, eggs, and more. Plus, as I mentioned, it’s included in the rate of your room. Room rates at the Residence Inn in Scottsdale start at $119.00 per night.
