Getting away from it all and hitting the slopes on a family ski holiday can be a fantastic opportunity to spend time with each other and have buckets of fun at the same time. With many ski schools in Europe’s top resorts catering for children as young as three years old, there’s no reason why the whole family can’t take part in the action on the piste. Generally, ski schools will offer a dedicated children’s ski school with qualified instructors who are seasoned in teaching a group of children. As well as this, skiing kindergartens employ specially trained instructors to encourage young children to have fun and play in the snow rather than teaching them in long, structured lessons.

When making a decision on the resort you’d like to visit for your family ski holiday, there are several key points which need to be considered:

Is the accommodation family friendly?
Are the ski areas child friendly?
How highly rated are the ski schools and childcare facilities?
What activities are on offer? Does the resort have enough going on to keep the whole family occupied?
What is the total journey time for getting to your final destination? Take into account the flight and transfer time from the airport to your accommodation, will your children become restless?
If you’re staying in catered accommodation, how flexible are the meal times for children and babies? Analyse the piste map and work out how easy it will be to ski back to your child’s nursery quickly if they are unsettled.

Check out our selection of some of the best ski resorts for a family ski holiday:

La Rosiere, France

Showcasing a warm and friendly atmosphere, this traditional Alpine village is world renowned for its fantastic childcare facilities and ski schools. The Les Club Des Galopins offers a huge range of activities suitable for both toddlers and older children. The family ski area is impressive, right on the French/Italian border, and the pistes run straight to the resort centre, virtually to the doorstep of many of the chalets. Family friendly activities within La Rosiere include dog sledding, snowmobiling and the cinema. The resort has been accredited with the prestigious Famille Plus Montagne quality label, certifying the resort’s commitment to providing the highest standards of services to families with children.

Les Arcs, France

This charming and quaint village enjoys a quiet and relaxed atmosphere which is perfect for families with young children. The La Chat Botte children’s club caters for children as young as 12 months old and is open seven days a week. The ski slopes offer plenty of choice for all standards and levels and the Vanoise Express double decker cable car connects Les Arcs to another highly family friendly resort, La Plagne. The apres ski scene is fairly low key, which is perfect for those with young children. The resort proudly holds the Famille Plus Montagne label and is constantly working to provide families with the very best facilities in childcare and entertainment.

Chamonix, France

Great for non-skiers and skiers alike, Chamonix is a year-round sightseeing destination thanks to its great attractions such as the Aiguille du Midi cable car (3842m) and the red cog-wheel train of Montenvers which climbs to the famous Mer de Glace. Snow-sure, the ski terrain is split into three areas all linked by an efficient shuttle bus service and a panoramic sightseeing train. In terms of childcare, this is mainly taken care of by the ski schools, who offer a winning combination of tuition and childcare for children aged three and older. Chamonix features an excellent range of activities to keep the whole family occupied, including the cinema, a sports

The Moulin Rouge – just the name conjures up a wonderful image of Paris at its most elegant, scandalous and entertaining. These days it is a magnet for travellers to Paris just as it was a magnet for the rich and cultured of the city when it first opened during the Belle Epoque in 1889.

Situated in the Pigalle district near Montmartre, back then it offered a place that people from all walks of society could meet for some song and dance. Cabaret really had its birth here in the dancing girls and singing – light operetta and showgirls. In 1915 it was destroyed by fire and in 1921 it was rebuilt. After the second world war when Paris was liberated, Edith Piaf sang there. The Moulin Rouge has a long and wonderful history and is deservedly a Paris icon.

See a show and try new menus through March 2012 at the Moulin Rouge

These days, with its distinctive red windmill on the roof and the richly elegant turn-of-the-century decor, it’s the perfect place for a night’s entertainment. And right now, it has the extra attraction of a new, special menu until the end of March 2012.

The kitchens have been put in the safe hands of an equally historic gastronomic house famous in France called Maison Dalloyau. Established in 1682, Dallyou is known throughout France for its pastries, chocolates and dinners and has been in the same family for its whole 300-plus year history, and they used to prepare banquets for Louis XIV. Because Dalloyau are joining forces with the Moulin Rouge for these special few months it is causing quite a stir in Paris and makes a visit during this time even more special.

There are several menus available including the ‘Toulouse-Lautrec’, the Moulin Rouge ‘Opera’ and the Belle Epoque involving duck, lobster, steak and wonderful desserts. Make sure you book well in advance. And leave room for the chocolate wings or crispy chocolate pearls – Maison Dalloyau’s sweet treats are not to be missed.

Find Moulin Rouge show and dinner tickets at Viator.com.

Palace Casino Resort rises from the rubble

Originally opened in January 1997 as the riverboat Palace Casino, Hurricane Katrina roared through Biloxi, Mississippi on the afternoon of August 28, 2005 and threw caution to the wind, taking the four-diamond Palace Casino Resort with it. On my recent visit to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I had the pleasure of staying at the newly renovated Palace Casino Resort. Owner Robert Low and his wife Lawana said, “our success has never been based on the bricks and mortar, but rather the hard work of our dedicated associates.”

Expanded gaming floor

The Palace Casino Resort has added hundred of new slots – 1,100 slots to be specific – as well as a new table games pit to the new gaming floor. If you are a gambler, be sure to look into the player perks program. Not a gambler; you’ll find the best hotel rates online.

Palace Casino Resort King, room #701, with water view.

King deluxe suite

My king deluxe suite, room #701, included a water view of Biloxi’s Back Bay and complimentary internet access. During Mardi Gras weekend, my room rented for $199 plus tax. I liked that my room was on a corner, away from the elevator. My room safe wasn’t working the first night, but after a call to house keeping, a maintenance man and security guard were on the scene and had the incorrectly installed battery working soon.

Dining options for every budget

On site dining at Palace Casino Resort includes fine dining, the Palace Buffet, three casual dining options and the Contact Lounge & Sports Bar. Opened on April 18, 2011, the Palace Buffet seats 300 and offers live action cooking stations, while Stacked grill features burgers, sandwiches and specialty shakes. For the meat lovers in the group, Mignon’s Steaks & Seafood serves dinner Wednesday – Sunday. This California girl was impressed with the restaurant’s selection of wines.

Pure Spa

Try the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Massage & Body Treatment, 80 minutes for $150.

Not every “resort” at Walt Disney World is a hotel format. The Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground is actually part cabins and part camping, for those who want to rough it while at Disney’s Orlando theme parks.

Located just east of the Magic Kingdom, this property opened in November 1971, only a month after the park did. It features 799 camping spaces ranging from basic tent space up to full RV hook-up slots. It also has 407 air-conditioned “cabins” for those that need a few more creature comforts, like air conditioning. Thirteen of these are set up to be disabled accessible.

Campground rates range from $48 for a basic tent site during value season, to $125 for a premium campsite during peak holiday season. The cabins, which sleep up to six, range from $285 during value season up to $450 during peak holiday season. There are discounts available for AAA/CAA members and Annual Passholders. Some of the campsite loops are also pet-friendly, but there is an additional $5 a day charge.

Fort Wilderness Resort – Pioneer Hall

There are several dining options, all centrally located at Pioneer Hall. This includes Trail’s End Restaurant, which has a basic but hearty breakfast buffet, and the popular Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue dinner show. There are also several “trading posts” throughout the resort to purchase groceries, but you’ll save more money if you buy them before you get to the resort.

One of the most popular questions I get asked is why would you camp at Disney with so many other resorts to choose from. Several reasons, actually.

A lot of people want to stay in their own RV’s or have pets with them. The cabins are the least expensive way to accommodate six people in one lodging. The resort is also great for people who want to combine the fun of the parks with a love for the outdoors and outdoorsy activities, with everything from bikes to kayaks available for rental. You can even horseback ride for a fee at the on-property Tri-Circle D Livery.

There’s even a nightly free campfire program that has sing-alongs, marshmallow roasting, and a free nightly Disney movie (this campfire event is open to all Disney guests).

Guests staying at this property have full access to the Disney bus system, and also have access to a water shuttle that goes directly to the Magic Kingdom.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground is located at 4510 N. Ft. Wilderness Trail, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830. To make reservations or for more information, call 407-W-Disney.

A house would be the best place where people could get anything they want and could do anything they want to do. For that reason, they might provide the best for their house including anything inside. It is also important to have regular maintenance so that everything would be always in the best condition. From an all-inclusive resort in St. Lucia to a six-bedroom Costa Rica villa and a recently-renovated escape in Barbados, these are warm-weather deals you won’t want to pass up. But book now! The deals are only good through 2011.

Happy holidays to you, from Vacationist!
The BodyHoliday – up to 44% off (see photo above)
St. Lucia, West Indies

St. Lucia is known for its bevy of high-price hotels, but now that the BodyHoliday, LeSport, an adults-only all-inclusive resort on the island’s northwestern coast, is fresh from a $20 million refurbishment, there’s a top option for those in search of great value. Here, wellness is the focus, and guests can create itineraries as rigorous or relaxing as they’d like. Seeking tranquility? Lounge by the new two-level infinity-edge pool, head to a tai chi or yoga class, or opt for an aloe vera body wrap at the 33 treatment-room spa. Active types, or those who simply want to take advantage of the resort’s many inclusions, will sign up for island activities ranging from scuba diving certification programs to guided hikes up the Pinton mountains. (Sale ends in 9 days.)

Bella Vista – up to 34% off
Punta Leona, Costa Rica

Unless you have a live-in chef, views of dolphins from your bedroom, and 750 acres of rainforest at your doorstep, this six-bedroom Pacific coast villa is better than a home-away-from-home. All 8,000 square feet of contemporary stone, hardwoods, and furniture are yours: kitchen, indoor-outdoor living rooms, infinity pool and hot tub, bedrooms with ocean-view balconies, and the constant soundtrack of the pounding waves mixed with calls from monkeys and macaws—all just a 45-minute drive from San Jose, thanks to the region’s new highway. It’s an idyllic escape: days can be spent deep-sea fishing, surfing, or lounging on one of the country’s few white-sand beaches. (Sale ends in 11 days.)

The Crane Residential Resort – up to 24% off
Crane Beach, Barbados

Built in 1887, The Crane was the first resort hotel on Barbados. In the 1970s Oliver Messel revamped the main building; a more recent redo has taken The Crane into prime time, adding three buildings and private plunge pools. But despite continuous expansions, The Crane still retains its original charm: rooms in the modern residences have a certain tradition about them—Old World but clearly Caribbean—with mahogany furniture, jalousie windows, and coral stone walls, plus private verandas that overlook a powdery pink beach. Recently, The Crane cut the ribbon on a 55,000-square-foot retail and entertainment center with a state-of-the-art gym, souvenir and apparel shops, and a 120-seat Italian restaurant with a wine wall and sprawling veranda. (Sale ends in 14 days.)

Once you arrive in the city of Bucharest, you should keep this in your mind that lodging should be found at the earliest, or else you would be fleeced out of your money by the hotels. Book your rental apartment should be done in advance, in order to avoid getting rejected by the agencies which book rental apartments, and you can check their offer for accommodation in Bucharest in advance, so as to avoid any last-minute rushes, and ensure that you have the best rental apartments booked for yourself or for your family during your stay in Bucharest.

Once you get a very good idea about the best rental apartments that you would find in Bucharest, then it would be very prudent of you to book that rental apartment in advance. You would find all details here in various websites in the Internet, as to which rental apartment is free at that moment of time, and which is the best rental apartment that would find in the entire city. Such is the demand for rental apartments, that if you do not book in advance, you would always be greeted with a smile and be told that there is no rental apartment free for you at the present moment.

We’ve all been there – you’ve just arrived in Paris, or Rome, or New York (or wherever this month’s travel adventure is to) and you look in your bag only to suddenly realize… you forgot IT. You freeze. Your mind retraces your steps. And even though you can envision exactly where it’s sitting on your dresser, you still check 20+ times in your bag (as if the gods of travel will somehow hear your pain and magically IT will appear). But it doesn’t. It’s too late to go back. It’s too late to undo it. It’s done… IT is forgotten.

So, what mysterious item are we referring to? You tell us! We recently asked our Facebook fans and Twitter followers to do just that, to vote on the worst item one could forget on a trip. Here are the results, do you agree?

Note: We intentionally did not include passport as a option, because without that, you can’t even take your trip!

#5. House Keys

This item is a bit unusual as you don’t really need your house keys ON the trip itself. This is the type of item you don’t realize you’ve forgotten until you’re standing outside your house after a 2 week vacation and suddenly realize you’re locked out! Annoying? Yes. But since I suppose it doesn’t ruin your vacation until the vacation is already over, I guess understand why it was voted as #5.

#4. Cell Phone

For some reason cell phones (and similar electronic devices) create very mixed reactions amongst travelers. Some, couldn’t imagine a trip without it, and others wouldn’t even consider bringing a cell phone on their trip. What kind of traveler are you?

#3. Medications

As Paula Mclaren pointed out, “you can get the rest from friends..but not your meds…” I suppose the importance of this item depends on the type of medication you forgot. Advil? No biggie. Random medication for your rare yet life threatening illness? Biggie!

#2. Camera

As Christina Reynolds argued on our Facebook wall, “defo camera! no memories :O( which means no awesome pictures to upload to Viator.com after your trip!” (okay, we may have added that last part…)

*And drum roll please…*

#1. Credit Card / ATM Card

Because… as Joe Butkovich pointed out so accurately, “you can’t replace anything else you forgot with out the money!”

Thank you everyone who participated in this poll. Special thanks to our token favorite answer from Kenny Chen, “Viator customer service number”!

So, what’s the worst thing YOU’VE forgotten on a trip?
