Indigenous Angel Falls

Angel Falls in Venezuela is the most known waterfall in South America. Located in the Guavana highlands, this free falls 2,421 feet into the river. This waterfall is the tallest on the earth.

It is believed that this waterfall is 15 times higher than the Niagara Fall which is at a feet of 2,937 feet above sea level.

About the Fall

The falls are named after an “adventurous bush pilot from Missouri’ Jimmy Angel, and was believed to have located the falls while flying. Hence, the falls have been named after him.

The Falls spills into the Auyantepui river, which is also known as the Devil’s Canyon and is 979 meters below.

What to do at Angel Falls

There are lots of activities,which you can do at Angel Falls. Apart from viewing the falls, there are day tours and two days & one night stay at the area.

The SASCA tour at the Canaima National Park is a full day tour and takes you around the island of Coche, the Cariaco Gulf, the Araya Peninsula, the Strait of Monagas and the Anzoategui and finally crosses over to the river of Orinoco, which is just east of the Ciudad Boliver. After landing in Canaima, you are taken to the lagoon there and then at the Sapo Falls or the Yuri Falls. This depends on which time of the year and season you are visiting the place. The water from the falls goes into the Carrao River and the river inturn reaches the lake, Guri.

The Angel Fall excursion

After your flight takes off from Canaima, you are taken to Angel Falls. From the Canaima lagoon, you are then taken on a “curiara” which is an Indian dugout canoe and after you cross the lagoon, then you are taken to a hiking trail and you hike to El Sapo. After the excursion, you are then taken for an exclusive Barbecue lunch, with a view of the Canaima lagoon.

Lodging

There are a number of lodges available at the Angel Falls. The Classic Hoturvensa lodge is an excellent place which offers a “spectacular view of the Canaima Lagoon”. The lodge is sorrounded by jungle, river, waterfall, Savannah and Tepuy.

The Jungle Rudy Camp is another ‘adventure tourism’ in the country. This is simply an amazing place and you can relax yourself at different falls like Mayupa, El Sapo, El Hacha, Sabanero and the Moroco River.

This camp has a maximum capacity of 26, with 4 cabins with 6 double rooms, 4 triples and 1 honeymoon or ‘matrimonial’.
